ATV camera case. - 05-12-2008, 12:21 AM

I've been wanting to take my camera equipment 4 wheeler riding with me since i bought the 4 wheeler. I bought a waterproof case with foam padding but everything bounces too much in it. I need something that holds the camera tight in foam and then can be held secured to the racks.

I was wondering if anyone has a setup that they use for this or similar.

What i need to fit in it is at least a Rebel XTi with a 24-70 F2.8L and external flash. another lens or two would be great as well.

as long as i still have room for my beer, size is not much of an issue

Photography does not make me money, but its my escape from life and that is priceless.

A Pelican box sized to fit the cargo rack on the ATV. Strap it down tight. Don't go so fast!

Another thought: I don't know if these bags are big enough, but...There is a line of inflatable camera bags sold for canoeing/kayaking. The gear goes in and the bag is inflated around the gear. Air cushioning to the max. One of these air bags inside a Pelican box with foam around the air bag should be bounce proof.

i like the idea of the inflatable camera bag.

I have one of these boxes mounted on the front, but it needs more... the camera flops all around inside this case. Some of those bags might resolve that issue though.

get a pelican, and order it with quick pluck foam and "pluck" out squares to fit....... I have a pelican case that is great for travelling, if you drilled holes in it, you could bolt it to the rack maybe? Many sizes available.....

No wonder! Stick some foam in the lid. Two layers: A dense firm layer against the plasic lid and a less dense layer against the cameras. Bubble wrap might even work.

Scott, get a small shoulder bag and stick that in the back-mounted hard case.

The Pelican is the best way to go, the foam is nice until you need to reconfigure it, I usually stick my Lowepro bag inside the Pelican case, or get the dividers.

I would use a camera backpack and wear it...I would be afraid that mounting it to the ATV would be too rough on it.

i like the backpack / slingshot idea. I will probably snag one of those to replace my already outgrown bag.

I wonder how bad the load would be on an all day ride...

Hey, as long as your camera is with you & ready to use, who cares if you look goofy?

I used a compact bag by Lowepro...the MicroTrekker. I used it on a 7 day atv trip through the Steamboat area of Colorado. We typically ride very aggressive and I had no issues carrying my 20d and a couple of lenses. I also carry 1 gallon zip lock freezer bags to put equipment in if it starts to rain or I think I will be in wet areas, such as rivers and the such.
