backpack recommendation - 05-23-2008, 10:01 AM

We just bought a Nikon D60. Right now, we only have the standard lens it comes with and the 55-200 lens. We know that we want a backpack type bag....not too large but large enough that we can grow into a little.

What does anybody recommend? We want to try and stay in the $60-80 price range.

Thanks
Kris

Try a Lowepro Slingshot 100 or 200, its a sling type backpack. You can quickly access you camera as it swings around your body without having to take it off. Tamrac makes some good bags too...check out B & H photo/video for all styles, you may not want to order from them, but at least you can see what types are out there.

I've had a Lowepro Micro Trekker 200 for a few years now, and it has held up very well. It is big enough to carry my D2x, 80-200, 28-70, 17-35, 10.5 fisheye, SB-800 flash, plus spare CF cards, batteries, lens cleaning supplies, etc. I beat the crap out of it, and it still protects my gear nicely. However, it is a relatively small backpack, and when you put that much weight in it, it's not exactly what I would call real comfortable to carry all day. It works for me, but I might suggest finding a well stocked camera store, so you can actually try one on and see how well it fits you. I don't think you can go wrong with a Lowepro product, though.

I 2nd the Lowepro Slingshot.. I have the 200AW, and love it. Fits plenty of the basics, with some room to grow, comfortable, etc. You can pick one up for about $60 on B&H Photo

I have the Lowepro Mini Trekker AW. Have either my 20D or 1DMIII in it with 17-55 or 24-105 respectively attached to the camera, 100mm macro, battery charger and spare battery, 580 flash, all my cables and releases, manuals for the stuff. I've taken it on trips overseas and could even put my rain coat in it with all my camera gear along with some meds bottles. It's not huge but not too small either. Have packed the sucked all over Scarborough Faire all day and not gotten too worn out. I like it a lot.

I'm sold on the Think Tank "Glass Taxi". Most comfortable backpack I've owned and should allow enough room for you to grow in to. Would definitely have a look at it before buying anything.

Ironically, the Canon backpack (amazon search) sounds like it'd do the trick with room to grow.

I just picked up a used Lowepro Mini TrekkerAW and it's perfect for my 40D + lenses and accessories. This one is 3-4 years old with a fair amount of use, and has many years left on it.
