Just to update this is not true: the 1560 can be carried on as it fits the limits. The 1560 is 50.5inches (L+W+H).

Good update.

The last post was from 2008. Things have gotten better.

Chris - did you compare the size of the 1560 to the TT roller bags?

I compared the 1560 to the TT airport security. I was gonna go with that TT but I didn't like how the lid bulged with a pro body in it rubbing on the top. The pelican is about .5" deeper and maybe an 1" wider but it is shorter than the TT. According to TSA here both bags fit the limits of carry on.

I took a trip to Japan and Taiwan with this backpack (Gregory Z35 Pack Backpack) and a solder bag (Tenba Large Messenger) as carry on. Both trips were 2.5 weeks and had no problem getting through security. The Backpack was stuffed to it's limits both times and probably weighed more than 40lbs. For Japan I flew American Airlines and for Taiwan I was on Delta. The only problem I have ever has was with liquids and toothpaste. Sad things is leaving the country I never had a problem but when I got back I had to throw away my contact solution and toothpaste.

Hope this helps and clarifies up some things.

edit: and Ken the 1560 has wheels.

Yeah, i'd be worry about whats stated on TSA versus what each airline allows. I'd suggest you buy a lock in case you have to check it in.

I agree, but if you look at the link I posted it goes to the same site (luggage online). It just limits to the major airlines. I have a lock for it already and tbh if I was forced to check it I feel much more at ease checking a pelican case than the TT security v2.0. I store my dive gear in a pelican and have had it thrown all around with no damage to the contents.

If you are very wary then I would say go with the 1510. It is smaller but still has wheels and all the normal pelican durability.

Edite: The other major reason I went with the pelican over the TT is I got it for $150 less and stores the same amount of gear with IMO more protection.

Yep, I dont disagree that the Pelican cases are durable. It's just that stating it fits the dimensions doesnt mean you'll get to carry it on at a high percentage compared to say the 1510 or the TT products. I'd like to hear what happens after you first flight with it though :)
