I use a 1510 for my carry-on camera case. It fits in the overhead and allows me to pull it through the terminal. Security has me open the case after it goes through the x-ray machine, but beyond that, it is no different than any other bag. Of course it provides very good protection for my gear.

The 1510 is the largest that can be carried on. Make sure you get the "1514" that is the one with the dividers.

thanks guys! i was also searching, and found a ton of good info in other threads. apparently, there is a run on 1510s right now and not a one to be had locally. all the suppliers are also apparently out. i called pelicans-4-less and they got me fixed up, so thanks to whoever posted that link!!

Why does this fact suddenly make me want one?

Check with Sail Tech Marine, they are located here in Houston, (well, actually Kemah). When I can't find anything on the net, they seem to always have it in stock. They are one of Pelican's largest Dealers in the Southwest. They also have a nice Showroom that shows ALL of the Pelican Products and a HUGE Warehouse of all of the products. I was just there about a month ago to get the 1510 (and they had several of them in stock) but decided to go with the 1560. Over the last year, I've purchase two 1650's, a 1560 and I recommended a friend to them who just bought a 1510 for her destination wedding just last week. I will pretty much bet that they have the 1510 in stock and probably in a variety of colors. And their pricing is very competitive with Online pricing, sometimes even beating Online pricing, which is rare..... Ask for Dick, (No Joke, LOL).

Here's their web link along with their local and 1-888 Number.....

you can lock them with padlocks but sometimes, amusingly, the padlocks simply vanish en-route and you find a little piece of paper inside saying your bag has been inspected

You could always get a TSA approved lock and then it shouldn't vanish:

Use my 1510 as protection on the boat and as carry-on luggage, love it.

I have 2 broken TSA locks that'll tell people otherwise... I used a friend's 1510 across the nation, great - I'll be getting one soon. Was up in Colorado this week with a 1620 loaded with 4x projectors, 3x bodies, lenses - a bit too heavy to carry down and the ground was too rough to roll, so what else to do?

Kick it the 40' downhill / stairs. Everything inside is untouched.

Hi! I love my Pelican 1510. It can get pretty heavy once you've packed all your gear in it. A wimp like me has a hard time getting it in the overhead compartment, but once it's in it fits fine. I've checked it in before and just use those plastic ties to lock it. So far, I've never gotten the case back from baggage claim with the ties cut off. Best part... it's so strong you can sit on it when you're waiting for a cab outside the airport :)

howdy!

the pelican and i traveled issue free this weekend. i had the thing packed to maximum density - and i was glad i chose the divider system - so there was plenty of stuff inside it:

20d
mark3
70-200
24-105
10-20
50mm
lensbaby 3.0
580ex2
quantum t5dr
turbo 2x2 battery
various small items, cables, etc.

i was on an embraer regional jet, so it would not fit in the overhead and i had to check it on the jetway, which was fine. i could at least watch and see it go aboard the aircraft! i was actually surprised at how easy it sailed thru security, though. tsa never so much as asked me to open it.

the other cool thing about the trip was that i was in a rental prius. it AVERAGED 40mpg!!
