Question Sports Camera Bag Recommendations - 08-26-2008, 06:38 PM

OK all, I'm looking for recommendations for a belt type bag to use at HS football games. It need to be big enough for a 30D (with grip), a 70-200 2.8 lens (not necessarily mounted), 24-70 2.8 lens, flash & misc accessories. Reasonable comfort and mobility is key.

When I go to a game, it is with the band, so I mix candids of the kids in the stands with some sideline photos. It is important that I be able to put everything away in the pack so I have both hands free to do my chaperon duties as well.

I have a Lowepro SlingShot 100, and it works pretty well, but is too small now. It also doesn't stay on very well when I have to bend over to do something.

I've been thinking about a Kata W-94, but I'm not sure if it is big enough for my lens selections. I've not been able to see on in person.

I'm sure this has probably been covered on the forum to some extent, but I haven't yet put together the right search to find it. Any input would be appreciated.

TIA,

Think Tank

I use their Urban Disguise and the Airport Security. Best bags/rollers I have ever owned.

Crumpler 7 Million

Holds my Mark III with 24-70 atached. Still have room for 580, 70-200 2.8, and 85 1.8 plus other bits and bobs

Don, you might consider a TT speed belt with a Digital holster and a lens changer. Another alternative is a TT ChangeUp with Chimp Cage. My favorite is the TT ChangeUp with Chimp Cage and Lens Changer.

If I have the ChangeUp setup with me during the Allen games, I'll be happy to show it to you.

I have a Lowepro Slingshot 200 and I am able to fit my 70-200 f2.8 in the base of the bag, camera in the middle section and 3 other lenses in the upper sections. A little snug. But I wanted as small of a camera bag as I could get away with, while carrying what I need. I cannot put the camera in the bag with the 200mm attached. Thats the only downside.

Think Tank Modulus Belt, Digital Holster 50 (for 30D with 70-200mm mounted), and Lens Changer 35 (for 24-70mm). Add on maybe a Speed Changer or the Lightning Fast plus All The Other Stuff. Also the the Pixel Racing Harness perhaps. Something like that.

I was just scrambling over rocks at Pedernales Falls the weekend before last while wearing the belt, Digital Holster 40 (for 40D with grip and 16-35mm mounted), Lens Changer 15 (for 85mm f/1.8), and Modulus Pouch. Then I went hiking for three miles with the same setup. Couldn't be happier with it.

About the only downside is that there are so many different useful configurations, it's easy to get sucked in to buying a wide variety of stuff to hang off the belt.

I like the Think Tank Skins set; it's lighter and less bulky.

Thanks to all for the input. It is obvious I need to think a little broader than I have been. I'll check out the Think Tank line more closely. There are just so many options, it is hard to know where to start.

Jim - You know where to find me at games.

Thanks,

if you go with TT i would receommend their Steroid Belt versus their regular Pro Belt.

The Steroid belt is made much better and is an all around better design and it makes sliding the modules around so much easier. the wider belt also helps distribute the load of the lenses much better too
