Fear for your Gear...

Good info from ThinkTank on traveling with your gear.

I've been traveling the US shooting for clients for 6 years and have used pelican cases send ahead via Continental Cargo but even their rates have gone up.

I just got back from a shoot in Los Angeles with my new event photography system. I set it up to be much more travel-friendly, especially with all the new luggage fees, but still it's a pain in the butt...more like pain in the back?! Same client wants to take me on two possible US college tours for clients...so further 'travel conciseness' is in the works.

I have a couple fashion photographer friends that are now just renting gear where ever they shoot because of the fees to ship on the airlines. I just never thought I would see the day when photographers would rather rent than ship their own gear.

One guy that does glamor type books and website (aka soft core nudies) has stopped traveling all together. He used to shoot all over the world but now gets it all done in studio or with no more than a days drive away from the studio. He will fly in models and MUA but he and his gear plus an assistant drive.
