Need suggestions on camera bag - 11-05-2008, 07:08 PM

I need one that will hold atleast 5 lenses 2 bodies, 2 flashes and and all the little stuff. And a 17inch laptop. I also need it to be able to go as a carry on and wheels would be nice but not a must. Any suggestions? And if you have the bag you suggest can you tell me why? I love my lowepro but can't seem to find anything from them that really works.

I just bought one of THESE while at B&H in New York.

I like it a lot, but it may be outside your budget. Check on Ebay for discounted prices.

Thanks Tom was just looking at those. They are all just so heavy on their own. Price isn't an issue lol as dh is pissed that I misplaced the 135 2.8 and a flash 1.5 weeks ago. I mean I am not going to spend 1000 dollars but he has already seen that it will be several hundred. Thanks for the suggestion. I will look at it more.

Don't laugh...but I started looking at diaper bags.

I just can't get over the ugliness of most camera bags. Diaper bags are often cute, roomy, and have a million little pockets. Plus a lot of them come with a changing pad, which can come in handy when you want someone to sit somewhere dirty, need a clean place to change lenses, etc. They tend to be padded pretty well, and they are cheap by comparison.

I haven't gotten one yet, but I have a Diaper Dude on my wish list.

I have a Lowepro Stealth Reporter, and it's not the biggest one they make. Mine will fit 2 standard-size SLRs, two flashes, 17-inch laptop and probably four lenses (including a 70-200 mounted on one camera). Great organization for memory cards (detachable wallet) and the small stuff. It is really heavy when fully loaded, though, so something on wheels would probably be recommendable.

A diaper bag would work if you stuff in some supplemental padding. They are not built to carry anything heavy in a secure way on their own. I've got two kids!

I've been in the market for a bag for sometime now and still researching. I have read nothing but positive reviews of the thinktank bags. I'm unsure of your budget and if youre actually looking for a sling or backpack or one which looks like a luggage bag.

Luggage bag type with wheels: http://www.thinktankphoto.com/ttp_pr...rprtScrty2.php

Shoulder:

Backpack, no mention of carrying the 17" laptop, but a 15" is doable:

Of course, there is crumpler as Corrie mentioned, along with Kata, Delsey, Tarmac, Lowepro as theyve been mentioned. I have found user pics of various bags at cambags.com with some review.

Apologies if I added more to your search vs narrowing it down. ;)

I just got an TT Airport Security and it is awesome. Great details and holds a lot of stuff. It also comes with way more dividers than you could ever need but allows for a lot of configs.

I used a LowePro Comutrekker Plus when I went to South Africa and Europe this summer. All I can tell you is that whatever you get, it will weigh a ton with that much gear in it. I carried it with me as I walked around London, Frankfurt and Capetown. Good thing it has a waist belt to take some of the heavy off the shoulders. I did carry a 17" laptop and my camera stuff in it. I'm thinking somewhere in the neighborhood of 40 lbs total weight. One with wheels that you pull would be convenient and a little easier on your back. Don't get me wrong, I love my CT Plus as it holds lots of stuff, but you could kill someone with it trying to sling it over your shoulders in a crowded plane.

If it's just to be used for local stuff, go with the wheels. If you plan on using it for plane travel, check the size of the wheeled bags to be sure it will fit in the overhead bin. Some of those bins are really small. My back pack fit in all the compartments but was a squeeze in some of them.

you need one of these kata HB-207 I have one, that I don't use anymore. It can hold a canon 1Ds with 70-200, Canon 5d, 24-70, 16-35, 15mm fisheye, 580EX II, Cleaning supplies, 100mm Macro, 35mm 1.4, 17" laptop, and more... although it can get heavy loaded like that... thats when you place the trolley on and it becomes a roller. I paid $270 for mine, plus $50 for the trolley... trolley was never used. If you want, I can sell you the whole deal for $200

Thanks for the suggestion Ken.
I was actually leaning towards a backback style but with my back issues that may be out as those big bags are heavy :(. So if I go with anything else I will keep my trekker that I have now for the walking trips, dh just doesn't know it yet lol.
