The search for the not so perfect camera bag.... - 12-22-2008, 06:52 AM

While we are on the topic of Bags:

I am NOT looking for a bag to hold my 4 camera bodies, 12 lenses, 2 laptops , 20 batteries, 4 flashes, and 3 tripods since I have none of this stuff. I want a small bag to carry the following
  • 50D with 1 lens attached
  • 100-400/f4L canon lens
  • 28-135 kit lens
  • some sort of wide angle lens like a tokina 12-24 (maybe)
  • maybe a flash (big maybe)
This bag will be used as a walkaround bag when on vacation during the daytime. Ive got a Lowepro Compurover AW to serve as my carry on bag for my laptop and some other electronics. Anyone have experience with the following bags
  • lowepro Flipside series
  • lowepro Slingshot series
I want either a small backpack or shoulder sling type bag ,because I tend to vacation in third world countries and I want to keep my stuff close to me.

The ThinkTank Glass Taxi is what i recommend... this bag is by far my favorite... as a recovering bag-a-holic ive been through many bags in my short photography career.. hehee

The bag is very minimal but yet very spacious, you can get quite a bit in there and still keep it in a very discrete small package.

I usually carry:

canon 1d mk3 with 24-70 f2.8 attached
35 f1.4L
17-40 f4L
85 f1.8
15 f2.8
canon st-e2
580ex2
misc odds and ends..

I carry a LowePro Fastpac 350 and have been happy with it. I carry a laptop when I travel, as well as a 50D, 100-400, 17-40, 580EX, cables chargers and junk.

http://products.lowepro.com/product/...50,2087,14.htm

It has enough room to pack all that in, plus my iPhone, heaphones, passport, and all the carryon things I normally bring. I like the layout and the side-loading camera/lens compartment with the additional flap and straps gives me an added sense of security.

Before I carried a laptop, I loved the Slingshot 300 for it's ease of use.

Definitely carrying a backpack/slingpack helps prevent (or lessen the probability) the snatch and grabs.

I'm not sure if you had considered the kata bags, the 3n1's in particular, right or left shoulder sling bag or as a backpack. When I was there in early Nov, the Houston Cam Exchange had several.
