Other uses for large camera bag - 04-27-2009, 06:31 PM

I have the LowePro ProRoller 3 bag. It's as big as me! I used it for weddings since I carried 2 of everything. Well I don't hardly do any weddings anymore and I've downsized my location bag. So I have this bag sitting amongst all my other studio equipment and I am trying to decide if it has a second life.
I thought about purchasing some monolights, such as the Photogenics. I was wondering if they would fit in that LowePro bag. So, does anyone have any suggestions or ideas for resurrecting this bag?

Giving it away was not part of my stimulus plan for an economic photo recovery!

If it's really as big as you are, sounds like a cheap way to score good deals on airfare.

If any of the equipment you're pondering is available locally, you could drag the bag to the store and see if it will fit. Just tell somebody what you're doing so they don't think you're trying to roll out without paying.

Good idea !! Can I just borrow that bag for a few days ? I'll give it back when I'm done.....
or
you can pick it up from the evidence locker of the police station over by the camera store.

How much camera equipment do you think it would hold anyway ?????

It holds too much for me. By the time I pack it I can hardly lift it into the back of my Sequoia. I'm 5'3 and 120 pounds wet. My husband makes fun of me all the time about this bag. I have to hire someone to lift it! I wasn't sure if putting photogenics in it would make it heavier. I dunno. Maybe it's second life is craigs list.
It's too nice a bag for cords and accessories.thanks for the input.

You are proving my wife's theory that smaller people drive big cars (a Sequoia!) and bigger people drive smaller cars.

If you are interested in selling, I think Tom is really wanting to take a crack at buying your gigantor-bag. If not, there are bound to be others interested who can give it a nice home. Or if they're small enough, they can make it a nice home.

Before putting it on CL, how much do you want for it used? I'm in need of a roller bag.

I'm still trying to decide if I want to try to use it for something. It's such a great bag. But I suppose it will always be too heavy. I'd love to put all my stuff I'm selling on the forum, but I don't have enough posts to be allowed to do that. So all my stuff is out on Craig's List. Background, tripod, bracket, desk, etc....

You're more than halfway to the post count that would allow you to sell things here!

That never stopped me until recently; now I strive for more self-editing before commenting.

My Buddhist friend tells me to "..to be still and a solution will always present itself".
A solution presented itself today...

Well, today I just booked a destination wedding in dowtown Chicago for Labor Day weekend and I forgot I already had a wedding booked in Los Gatos, CA the end of September. So I could probably use the case for those air travel events. I went over to my associates place and we put her 4 Photogenic monolights in the case. Well, yes it is heavy, but we concluded that it at least rolls which is more than I could say about a Tenba air case. I'll just have to tip someone to pull it off the carousal for me! Oh, and it also held the cords, reflectors, speed rings with no issues and still plenty of room for a reflector and other small items. So for the present moment, I think I will hold onto it. So concludes this hurtle. And as far as small people in big automobiles, well what can I say. Commercial location work can require alot of gear and I can put a 9' roll of seamless in there as well. I think I justify my large truck. It's not my first choice. I'd love to have a Jetta wagon diesel then run bio diesel in it. But they start at around $45,000 and the Sequoia is paid for!!!

Thank for ya'lls input!

I'll be starting another thread on cave weddings.

You can store your smaller bags in it, and make it "photo gear headquarters" in the back of your vehicle. Open it up, put stuff in it and go. Plus, if you are on location, then you can make it be your central location for all your gear. Treat it like a foot locker or closet. You don't have to roll it around and lift it all the time. Just open it and pull out the smaller when you need them.

I'd keep the big one, since you already own it.
