I "assume" that this thread is to show examples of photos taken with the Canon 85mm f/1.4 L II lens... so here's one:

EOS 1D Mk III - 1/200 sec. - F8 - ISO 100 - Shot In Manual

Wil, great shot! I heard it's quite difficult to get focus at f1.4. Do you have any shot at this aperature?

Thanks

Luke,

Yes, I have a ton of shots at f/1.4... I'll dig up a few and post them.

Ok... I didn't have access to the original at the moment because I'm disconnect from my image server... but I did a screenshot from lightroom (love the disconnected use!):

When I get home and have access to my image server, I will update this post with the original so that the JPG artifacting isn't there.

It's the Nikon version that stops at f/1.4.

That was simply a mistype on my part. I have both lenses so I know that the Nikon stops a 1.4 and the Canon at 1.2.

Ok... here are two examples of the CANON 85mm f/1.2 showing the front and rear DOF.

EOS 1D Mk. III : 1/500s : f/1.2 : ISO 400 : A-Priority

EOS 1D Mk. III : 1/500s : f/1.2 : ISO 400 : A-Priority

And just for comparison... I hope this is ok in this thread... if not, let me know and I'll remove this portion of the post. Keep in mind that this is not exactly comparing apples and apples because the crop factors are different and the ISO's are different too.

Nikon D300 : 1/200s : f/1.4 : ISO 640

I'm looking at both the 85mm f/1.2 and 85mm f/1.8, is the difference between the two so much that it justifies the price difference?

I believe you get what you pay for! Glass is a good investment if taken care of. Look at the group images on flickr for both lenses and you decide. I know before I purchased the 1.2 I looked at as many images as I could to help me make the decision.
