Thank you Sir, I used my 1.7 tele. with 1st gen 70-200 2.8 vr. showing 340 on the data. I wonder if a polarizer filter would have helped? Also I am still pinning for the 300 mm 2.8.

I've got one of those 300mm cannons. Don't mount one on your camera unless you want to have serious lens lust. I have the AF-S II model (non VR) and it's really amazing.
