Death of a building - 07-18-2010, 02:42 PM

Princess and I went to Marshall yesterday and drove by Sam Houston School, expecting it to be a pile of rubble or a vacant lot. I was surprised to see that she was was still standing majestically as ever albeit quite battered from her devistating fire several months ago. It looks like all of her inner support is gone and she may yet succum to the wrecking ball. Princess worried about me getting too close and her collapsing, but I felt compelled to photograph what probably will be some of her final days.

I don't know what my fashination is with this old building other than the many memories. It is like watching an old friend slowly fade away. Anyway, thanks for looking.

I welcome any C&C.

I understand your emotions! Places as well as people can hold a spot in your heart that is difficult to dismiss. Fond memories of past events are a very important part of our being.

As I understand, there were several old schools built using this same design. This is the last one standing.

It is always great to photograph what is before it turns into what was. Looks like a neat place to take different stills of pictures.

Stanford, I don't know the exact address or the cross streets. It's on East Houston between State hwy 59 and the courthouse square (Washington Ave.).

I'll check and see if I can more closely pinpoint it's location.

I grew up in Marshall but never learned most of the streets. I just knew where things were. I could take you there but could not tell you how to get there.

The courthouse is another photo op.

Stan, The address is about 1226 E. Houston on the north side of East Houston. I hope the link below works.

I can't tell you how many times I kept putting of taking a picture of an old building and, when finally deciding to get the shot, it being torn down just before hand. Nice capture!
