Yeah they just put that couple up late last year, waiting to see the look on 10 year old boys at the state fair when they see the lady in her naturalness this year.
Some nice shots, I need to get back out there towards sunset and shoot them-your shots make mine look sic. | | | |

Kevin, the singers make imposing figures from that viewpoint. I really love your third shot, excellent use of geometric shapes to create an interesting composition. That's art, even if it's digital.
Wes, I like your perspective on the Woofus. The color looks a little "off", but it gives it an other-worldly feel that's fitting for the subject. Besides, in mixed lighting like that, if you white-balance for the sky the light on the statue would probably be off. I like how the singers are pulled together by the long focal length in the second shot. I'm not sure how I feel about the tenor's arms being cut off - did you consider a horizontal shot from this viewpoint?

I've never been the the state fair, but I have to say Fair Park is a pretty neat place. In keeping with the theme so far, my first batch of images is sculpture and statues (I'll post some architecture and murals later). I'll just put small versions here, click on an image for a larger version. C&C welcome.

Yes and Yes... the color balance was hard because of he time of the evening and I chose for this on that seemed to be the least combined problem - - I liked the rendering of the stucco on this one the best and figured I's just have to explain away the issue with the sky...
Yes, I also considered a horizontal shot for the singers... again, a sort of least bad decision... I didn't like cutting off the arms, but moving further back so that I could get the vertical coverage I needed once I turned the camera made the woman much smaller and reduced the total impact of the alignment between their bodies. Plus, there was some partly erected scaffolding immediately to the right of the guys hands that came into the view and i didn't want it there and I didn't want to have to edit it out... and I think your brain can fill in the missing hands by seeing the parallel structure.
So they are both compromises... I know if I made the Woofus B&W I could eliminate the color issue... but it does not have the visual impact in B&W... But I may try my hand at it one evening this week.

Wes,
Contralto & Countertenor...
I am not bothered by the cut off limbs. I kinda like them like this.
However, my shot is from the female side , similar to what Jeff suggests here.

Jeff,
I saw you set up on the sculpture @ the Womens museum.
Now I see what you were up to. Very nice.
I am slightly bothered by the cut off sculpture in the reflecting pond. But not enough to ruin the shot.
The Woofus shot is good. You are cheating the white balance gods here.... The nit on that one is the cut off tassel.
Your shot of the singers is great. The female in the background is a nice touch. But it is the male figure, his shadow and the '"deco" pattern on the wall that make this shot "shine".
The Mammoth shot has great tones. Did you see that shot when you walked up, or did you work that shot out of it?

I think I would prefer the color Woofus, if we could get a decent sky.
Like you, I think it has more impact.
