Old Bartlett School - 11-16-2010, 12:17 PM

This deserted school just stood out like a sore thumb. Had to have some images of this old era structure. I love passing thru old towns.

That was a really fancy school building. It shows the town was proud of their school. I wonder what led to it being abandoned.

Don't mind at all. It's in Barlett. Just east of I-35 between Waco and Austin. It's the Jarrell exit (north of Georgetown). Take FM 487 east.

No fear...the Barlett Police Dept is located on the backside of this red brick school house.

When I was working on the Texas Church Project (shooting historic churches in small towns) we came across a few of these and thought they might make a good project.

Generally, the town outgrew the old building, but didn't have a "need" or the money to tear the old building down. In this case, the city seems to still be using part of it.

A lot of these little towns have many abandoned buildings of all types. There is (or was) a derelict Presbyterian church in Bartlett, also. It had been sold in 2008, so it may be gone.
