Tolerance Statues in Houston - 06-09-2011, 06:24 PM

Critique: CC:

OK. I'm going to be brave and upload a photo I took last weekend. Houston has these great statues in Tranquility Park and I thought they'd look great at twilight.

If anyone could tell me why the trees in the middle of the second photograph look so muddy I'd sure appreciate it! It wasn't a windy evening so unless there was short burst of wind I can't figure it out.

Ah, I drove by one and wondered what it was. I didn't even realize there was more than one...

nice captures. I have a few of these from when they were being built. Also the bridge that is there with them, I got some of the First shots of Downtown from that bridge before it opened :)). i'll have to find them in my mess of houston images.

Great shot: the 2nd one looks like there is some banding (stripping) across the image. It might have happened in post.

I'm pretty sure the banding comes from car taillights.

I think there are seven. They're really pretty when they're lit up at night.

I was referring to the banding in the sky where the shades of blue fade. On my screen I can see lines between the shades.

IMHO the banding happens when compressing to JPG, basically the # of blues is reduced and the smooth change with a lot of blues becomes bands with fewer blues. Sometimes lower compression rates can minimize it but it can be difficult to avoid totally in a compressed JPG.

I don't think they detract at all, these are wonderful shots of something I've never known about before.....road trip time!

It's just odd that the left half of the tree looks blurrier than the right.

However, because it's the background, I don't think it detracts from the photo. I forgot to mention earlier, but these are fantastic photos!

That's what I think...one part of the tree looks fine and the other doesn't!
