Ok I think you have a good idea but you really have to think of composition in this type of shot. I would bet if you stepped to the left about 5 ft (cut down the big brown blob on the right) and took the same shot it would be a lot more interesting and pleasant to the viewer. A smoothed out background (kind of what the shake does) can come out with a nice shot but a smoothed out foreground in this case looks like a blob of hair from the bottom of the drain was slapped onto the lens. I would recommend using a tripod when shooting and try to find a place where you can mark exactly where you were when you took a shot- maybe a small stone under the center point of the tripod- if you have time then take the camera off the tripod and shoot a picture of the tripod set up with the scene -non blurred for reference. If you can do layers you can overlay say a model or object placed into the scene that is crystal sharp in the foreground- experiment it's DIGITAL so little cost other than time for you.

For me the blurred blurb in the foreground, blocking the predictable green pasture in the background is precisely what makes this image different and interesting. I constantly fight this impulse within me to expect images to be like some other image i have seen before, or worse, like an image i would create myself.

Gary, I like it! I have tried some of these myself and I think this one is more interesting than any I have come up with. I love the color tones and I think it has great potential. I do agree that what has affectionately been dubbed the "brown blur" is maybe a bit too dominant in the photo. But I also think that it adds some degree of mystery which I like.

Maybe just a squarish crop that takes off about 1/2 of the right side of the photo would be a more pleasing composition?

I look forward to seeing more!

I also like the blob. Without it would seem too ordinary.

I find these types of photos interesting from the perspective of wondering why people find these types of photos interesting. I don't get it but I'm like that with most so called art and so I'm not saying others shouldn't get it either. To each his own I say.

It has a similar texture to an oil painting, not exact but close enough to evoke the vision in my mind. The more I view it the more I like it. Thanks for sharing a new vision.
