I posted this on the City of DeSoto's Website last night to which they responded immediately by deleting my post, so anyone interested in getting this corrected please pass this on to your friends. In 2008 the City of DeSoto placed an Obelisk shaped Monument commemorating the fact that it was recognized as an “All-American City” in 2006 at Pleasant Run and Interstate 35E, the busiest intersection leading into the city. According to city officials the Obelisk is nearly 70 feet tall and the cities “Landmark Monument”. The monument has two plaques that are attached to it that each tells part of the history of DeSoto. Sadly though one of the plaques has a typo on it, now it is difficult for me to believe that after being in place for 4 years that I am the first person to bring this to the city’s attention. Why haven’t they fixed this? Has accuracy lost its value? What this should say is "Spurgin and" Another thing that irks me is that on more than one occasion city officials have refered to this monument as the “Tallest Monument in Texas”… I don’t even have to try hard to refute that The San Jacinto Monument near Houston is 567 feet tall. |
