    Sea-Arama in Galveston

I was down in Galveston on an assignment for the Chronicle when I drove by the old Sea-Arama and decided to take a few pics. I did not go inside since I had some other shoots to do and pressed for time. I found a fan site on the place and you can see what it looked like in it's hay day.

The third picture is the dolphin lagoon and the fourth picture is what is left of the seating for it.

Those photos are so depressing. :( I spent many summer days there as a kid. We spent some time last summer after a day at Galveston Island State Park looking around there. It was awful to see it in such shambles. It was such a cool place in its heyday.

Cool pics. I like the stair pic.

Was this place kind of like Seaworld?

It looks like a good place for a movie a nice low budget suspense or scary movie.

    Oh wow....

I, too, used to go there back in the late '70s and early '80s. Don't remember much, as I was very young, but I remember the dolphin shows.

It was really the only place to go for many years, it's where I met Mamuk the whale. I always loved the ski shows. I spent many fun younger days there. I didn't know there was even that much structure left there. Thanks for posting the pics, even as bad as it looks, it brings back great memories.

The place was cool. Dolphins, whales, sharks, sea Lions, and the alligator wrestling and snake exhibit. They even had either a cougar or lion show. The parrot show was the best.

I never went there back in the day, but I drove by it several times last week when I was down there. My first thought was that it would make a cool location for a shoot

Hate to bump an old thread, but that really bring back some really old memories. I can remember spending many days there as a kid. Pretty sad sight to see these days. I forgot how bad it looked. Saw the remains several years back and hadn't gone back past since. Just thought that they had probably demolished what was left by now. Guess not. Could make for some really interesting shots. Might have to make a day trip of it.

I remember the place too. It's been closed about 15-20 years or so now I think.

It's remarkable that the property has not been developed as it is prime (seawall) area.

I wonder if it's tied up in litigation?
