Helsinki, Finland - January 2006 - 01-07-2007, 02:09 AM

Well I have been meaning to post these for a while now. Here are a few pictures from Helsinki Finland I took last January. I had just bought my 20D and 17-85IS lens and was over there on business. Needless to say, I took the camera.

I'd appreciate your comments and critiques. All the pictures below were handheld in -20C or colder temperatures.

This was taken around 5pm local time. I was caught by the chapel and the tree framing. This is one of my favorites.
ISO1600, f4.5, 28mm, 1/15s

ISO1600, f9.0, 24mm, 1/6s

ISO1600, f5.0, 38mm, 1/15s

ISO200, F7.1, 50mm, 1/80s

ISO200, f8.0, 60mm, 1/125s

Ice fishing in the harbour. It froze solid enough to walk on!

Beautiful pictures. Did you make any color corrections to numbers 1 & 2 or was the sky really that color? Nice stuff.

Hi Travis,

Thanks for the comments.

I did make some overall color corrections but I went back and looked at the raw file (just to make sure my memory was not failing) and yes the sky was that color. I remember it caught my eye and surprised me a bit as I was trying to stay warm.

That was the only day it was cloud free. My hosts told me it was very unusual for January and everyone was outside enjoying the sun at lunch time. As you can see from the rest, the snow came back the next day.

I like 2 and 5.... on number 2, the lines are very clear cut and the building is amazing. Number 5 looks like the lady is singing to the car.

I had never noticed that before. I watched her clearing the snow for a while before I took the picture.

Now I have a title for the photo. Thanks
