Photojournalism Training in DFW - 05-24-2005, 08:32 PM

Just wanting to get a rough idea of how many people would be interested in a seminar/class on photojournalism.

It would be taught by our own Leslie Spurlock and held at VIP Photography Studios in Flower Mound. Probably a few hours of basics in the studio and then out to the field.

Time would be sometime this summer, and if there is enough demand maybe a couple of different times. We'll try to keep the cost down but high enough to make it worth it for Leslie.

Just a quick reply as to level of interest would be great and also weekend or weeknight.

Thanks!

Can't believe this has been posted for over two hours and no replies  : I know there's interest; I'm interested. Of course, it will depend on the specifics as to whether I can participate. So. mark me down as a "definite maybe."

There were several others that responded to the beginnings of this idea on a differnt thread. I just started one here as I thought it was a more appropriate location.

Hopefully the dates will work out for everyone and we can have a good showing.

Hey Bruce! Hope you can come! It seems we have quite a few interested. You will have to give me some time to fully prepare, preferrably July, anytime.

Leslie,

I'm praying you won't drag us off to some God-forsaken back alley where people hate us and try to hurt us to get our cameras to pawn Seriously, I get scared real easy; I'm still on edge from those Haiti voodoo pictures. When I think of photojournalism, I think of people at Six Flags, or better yet, Traders Village in Grand Prairie, not the Hell's Angels or homeless lunatics -- but that's just me; I don't want to ruin your fun.

Hehe! Don't worry, I won't do anything like that to you. Besides, I want to save all that fun for me! I thought we'd do more of a photodocumentary-type shoot, not hardcore pj stuff. If people want to shoot that, they can always tag along with me somewhere, but I don't think it would be appropriate to put people's lives at stake for a class. The vodou wasn't a very frightening thing, except when this guy was blaming me for all of Haiti's problems and wouldn't leave me alone. He wanted me out of there. Then, I was hit on the head several times with a wooden machete. But other then that, it was pretty cool, and the people were very nice. Although, some of them were in such a state of mind that they barely even noticed me anyway.

You Dallas/Fort Worth people have all the fun! It seems ya'll really have this seminar/class thing running full steam ahead. Unfortunately, I don't think I would be able to make the trip. Ya'll have fun though!

Too bad you can't make it. There are a couple of people that might be coming from Houston. If you change your mind, you can probably hitch a ride with one of them.

PHOTOJOURNALISM TRAINING IN DFW - DATE SET! - 05-25-2005, 06:24 PM

OK guys, here's the information on the photojournalism training with Leslie Spurlock.

When: Saturday, July 16, 2005
Where: VIP Photography Studios, Flower Mound
Cost: $60 each (maximum 10 photographers) - a real bargain for TPF!

Tentative schedule:
10am: begin in studio
12pm: lunch as a group (dutch treat)
1pm - 5pm: shooting in the field
5pm (or when we're done shooting): back in the studio to go over photos

More details to follow. We will be taking deposits in a week or two. For now, please post that you're coming and email me so I can keep track. I've set up a new email account at phototraining@gmail.com.

This should be a lot of fun and very informative. Where else are we going to get this kind of training for $60? I look forward to seeing everyone.

I'm very interested, and *may* be able to drive up from Houston. I won't know for sure until a bit closer to the date though.
