The Last Picture Show: Inside the Arcadia Theater in Temple

They let me in to see it yesterday afternoon. It's pretty amazing what has happened to it in such a short time. This is the theater that I originally saw "Jaws" and "The Towering Inferno" and "The Sting" and a lot of other movies in. Not much is left of it at all. The carpet on the steps basically disintegrated as I walked up them.


I feel old!














The 8-story Hawn Hotel, next door, has become one of the world's most elaborate pigeon roosts:

There was a push by locals to revive this theatre.. I ran across a website not long ago about the "friends of the Arcadia".. wonder what happened with that...i will have to check into that...
