Some street pictures from Rome - 03-26-2009, 02:56 PM

I took the family to Rome for spring break and I had the opportunity to make some photos there. I used mostly a wide angle lens, 20mm on a full size sensor.

C&C always welcome!

Tom, they were sitting right by me in front of the Museum Borghese, into their own thing, and I really liked the setting and their natural cuteness, so I photographed them for fun.

Thanks for the comment!

I need a vehicle like the orange/red one in the last image. Then the police wouldn't arrest me for driving on the sidewalk.

Is that last pic in Trastevere? It's making me nostalgic.

Eric, you're correct, the last picture was taken on Monday in Trastevere, near Santa Maria della Scala. I loved this neighborhood. Here is another one of two lovers on a street close to the Tiber.

I thought that looked familiar. We stayed near Santa Maria in Trastevere and used to walk through this area on the way to the Vatican. Trastevere is a great neighborhood with a ton of atmosphere.

Nice shots. You are a very nice dad/husband to take your family to Rome for spring break!

Thank y'all for the comments. Rome is magnificent beyond belief, and a wonderful place to visit for a week. It's a bit tough on kids, mine are 6 and 7 and they walked all day, every day, but they are used to traveling. I had to refuel them with gelato once a day, and that kept them going!

Can you take me with you next time? I will buy the gelato.

Seriously, thanks for sharing things outside the normal touristy shots. I like them.

Hey Mike, sure thing, the more the merrier!

Thanks for the kind comment about the style. Most travel pictures are either snapshots in front of sights, or postcards of sights without people. I was inspired by a travel photography book I read recently in which the author discusses how to photograph places to capture the spirit of the place and the feel of being there. I am not sure I really got it, but at least I tried!

Those are some great shots. You definitely captured the feel of Italy. Not the standard typical tourist shots.

My wife and I were there for Spring break as well celebrating out 10yr anniversary. We spent 4 nights in Florence and 5 night in Rome. It was the best vacation I've ever taken. Also, you are certainly braver than I am taking your kids. Although a little older than my 3 and 5 year old. Once while at the Pantheon, I overheard one 8 year tell at his father "I hate this place, it's just another old building!"
