Great eye! The first one reminds me of a really old (like, late 19th Century) ink and water color piece my Dad picked up when he was stationed on Okinawa, doing "regional stuff." (And he learned how to cook some great food, too.)

Jay,
Very nice images. I like the juxtaposition of the old with the new.

Very nice. I will probably never get to see it in person so thank you.

I love number 3, I really think it makes a point very clearly. I think number 5 is a very nice use of a diagonal line, er a strait line diagonally? either way its a good leading line, how bout that?

Great stuff overall, only thing I would say is that IMO #2 could use a tiny tiny bit more contrast... maybe...

These buildings were along side the subway line. For a brief moment the subway runs above ground. I was just getting on anything I could board and riding it to wherever to find cool things to shoot. I passed these buildings up and immediately knew I wanted to shoot them for that reason. I got off at the next stop, turned around and it was right off of a big station a block away. Picture #10 is actually the exit for that subway station.

I think this was the most striking thing about Shanghai. There you could really see the difference between the old and the new. It was more apparent here than anywhere else in Asia I went.

It's not only in the buildings though, you could see it in the people. I'm the adventurer type and being a only English speaking hispanic guy from Texas I can say it was fun. It was cool wondering around alone trying to figure out things on my own. Lucky I'm the social type so found a few locals to show me around :)
