I forgot to mention Capulin Volcano National Monument in Northeast New Mexico. http://www.nps.gov/cavo/
It is a worthy photo opportunity. The view from the top is spectacular.

I think we are going by there on the way to Raton. That is one detour request from the family I hope they will let me take. Do you know how long that takes to drive up?

They don't want me to stop at Cadillac Ranch but I really want a couple of pictures. Can you see any of it from the road. I hope after they see it they will let me stop on the way back.

I would say you need a couple of hours to check out Capulin. As far as Cadillac Ranch, it it right off I-40 and an easy walk. It is on the west side of Amarillo, on the south side of I-40 and between Helium Rd. (Gander Mountain) and Soncy Rd exit. If you are on your way back, exit at Helium and stay on the access road.
