Has anyone attended the Introductions to DLSR photography class? I am thinking of taking it and was wondering if anyone has taken it and can give me some feedback.

I havent, but would be interested in taking something like that. Is there a local class? or is it online?

If you're a new Nikon DSLR user, this can be an excellent course. It's here in Houston on March 29. Their "next steps" seminar is March 30 (which deals more with workflow).

Check out www.nikonschool.com for more info.

Last year I took the Intro course and Streamlined WorkFlow Course in Dallas for the same reasons as you. At the time I was new to digital and to Nikon (still am). The presenters were from Blue Pixel, Kevin Gilbert and Nick Didlick. Both did an outstanding job of teaching and keeping everyone interested for two days. Also, it was good to sit in "class" to learn without having to put up with 150 attitudes. Both instructors controlled the questions quite effectively. My recommendation is to sign up immediately, because they can sell out quickly. This past w/e I was going to sign up for a couple of Nikonian classes in Houston, but procrastinated. I now have to go to Charleston, SC to take them because they have sold out.

This is probably a stupid question, but will a Canon shooter benefit from this course? Will they be talking specifically about Nikon cameras or will they focus more on concepts and techniques? I would definately be interested in this but wouldn't wanna be boo'ed at when I walk in with my 40D :)

I too was going to ask if I could show up with a Canon. Perhaps after I put a yellow "Nikon" sticker on it?
If they're just going to be discussing features/uses of the Nikon's I'll pass. Like espngo said, if they're going to be talking about technique and fundamentals, I'd go. Is it free or is there a cover charge?

I went to the Nikon School 2 years ago. I only went to the second of the 2 day class and I wish I would have gone to both days. The workflow demo was good. Obviously they promoted equipment from their sponsors [Epson, Lexar and some sofware vendors] but it wasn't like a Ronco infomercial. I took several pages notes. I wasn't shooting digital then but am now. Bluepixel presented and they gave the opportunity to get their slide deck. I think Canon users could benefit, but not as much as Nikon users. They discussed Nikon Capture and that won't help with Canon raw images.

I thought it was a good class!

It's a great first timer class. Doesn't matter what camera you shoot. It just covers the basics for exposure and other DSLR related basics.

for the canon users, you should take the canon class that is sponsored by HCE!

I took both classes in 02. Good stuff for shooters of any brand. They had a Nikon rep outside the class who had all the latest Nikon gear and was answering lots of questions. That was cool. It is good info, especially if your a beginner.
