Dallas Fort Worth: Bella Pop Wedding and Portrait Workshop - April 3, 2011 - 03-05-2011, 10:24 PM

A wedding and portrait workshop hosted by Brandy and Brandon Frank of Bella Pop Photography and Kyndal Howard, event designer of Leftover Lemons.

Bella Pop's first ever "Rock It! with BP" workshop will take place at the gorgeous Honeysuckle Gardens in Midlothian, Texas just outside Dallas - Fort Worth. This is a learn and participate style workshop and there will be plenty of opportunity to practice new skills as well as build a portfolio. This is a beginner workshop: however all skill levels are welcome. We will be providing age appropriate models and everyone will have a chance to photograph them. Wedding details and tablescapes will be set up for shooting as well: the decor will feature a French Country theme with a Texas spin... vintage fresh "love and teacups." Honeysuckle Gardens features a beautiful plantation style house with towering Oak trees and lush gardens, the perfect setting for this themed workshop!

This half day workshop is 4 hours long and will feature:

• posing for portraits and weddings
• setting up and capturing candid, casual moments
• interacting with subjects
• working with available light
• tips for wedding day
• models and details to photograph
• plenty of hands-on practice
• FAQ session and more

Our models will be real people, so participants will get more practice on giving them direction for posing. We'll have a bride and groom (couple) as well as two more models for portrait posing (perfect for portrait photographers who do not shoot weddings!)

This beginner workshop will focus mainly on interacting with subjects, choosing locations for portraits, lighting and posing. We will briefly discuss exposure (aperture, shutter speed, iso) and bounce flash and answer any questions new photographers might have. Should participants wish to learn more in-depth about exposure (how to shoot in manual) we highly recommend signing up for a separate class for shooting in manual. Participants however will *not* be expected to shoot in manual: remember all skill levels are welcome. Advanced skill levels are also welcome as there will be lots of eye candy to photograph, a chance to be creative for fun, make friends (and maybe pick up a few new ideas.)

Workshop will be limited to 20 participants. There will be 10 participants per photographer/teacher (Brandy and Brandon Frank) so that everyone gets attention. We're very excited about this first workshop and can't wait to meet new photographer friends! If you have any questions at all about this workshop, skill level or equipment, feel free to drop us a line at brandy @bellapop.com

Hi everyone! Just wanted to post an update about this workshop. We've gotten a lot of questions about details, what to expect, what we'll cover etc. and to answer our most popular question: YES we still have spots available for this workshop. Since it's our first workshop ever we expect to have a smaller group of photographers and we are totally ok with that!

Here's a sneak peek of our design board... think vintage fresh + French countryside mixed with a bit of whimsy and casual DIY details. So excited for these details!

Again if anyone has any questions at all please feel free to email (or PM) us directly or comment here. Yes, we will be walking through a typical "wedding day" while working on lighting, posing etc. for weddings and portraits.

Here's the sign ups so far:

1. Vanessa J.
2. Shalie R.
3. Aimee R.
4. Hayley B.
5. Sandy T.

I absolutely love doing the detail shots. Your board makes me want to come just to have fun with all of that. LOL

It looks great. Are you going to have lights, reflectors, or any other equipment or just bring your own?

Hi Ts!

Thanks so much for your question (and I'm sorry for my delayed reply, been very busy in photo land!) We will have reflectors as well as our personal flashes during the workshop. For the most part we shoot natural light and we will discuss and show you how to find the best light throughout the wedding day and we will also talk about / demonstrate using fill flash/bounce flash when needed. Other than helping hold reflectors or observing our personal equipment (for flash) you'll want to bring any other reflectors, flash, equipment you own. Of course, you'll want to bring your cameras and lenses too! We try to keep a low profile at weddings so we do not set up any big light systems and we will not have any large setups like this at the workshop.

I hope this answers your question, let me know if you need anything else! Thanks so much Ts!
