Canada - Banff: Dirt Cheap Photo Tour - September 8-11, 2011 - 04-25-2011, 07:28 PM

I'm hosting another "Dirt Cheap Photo Tour" - this time to the magnificent landscape of Banff National Park in Alberta, Canada.

From Thursday night, September 8th to Sunday night, September 11th, I'll lead a dozen other photographers to all of my favorite spots in this park - including up and down the Icefields Parkway which has been voted the most scenic highway in the world by several publications. The tour cost is $498 per person and that includes transportation to/from the hotel every day (I'm renting two full size SUVs).

Each tour participant would be responsible for their travel to/from Calgary, Canada (airport code: YYC), their hotel charges (I have a hotel - The Paradise Inn and Bungalows in Lake Louise that is giving us a group discount off their normal room rates), their rental car from Calgary and their meals.

You may be aware that the early September time period is when the grizzly come down from the higher elevations to feed on the berries alongside the roadways. It is also after schools start and both the hotel rates and rental car rates are much more inexpensive.

You may not be aware of how fun a photo tour is and can be with the right people.....I didn't expect the friendship and fellowship to be the highlight of the tour, but it was for the myself and the shooters who accompanied me on two Dirt Cheap photo tours last year. I've been shooting for a long time - and going to the Canadian Rockies with a bunch of fellow shooters who love landscape and wildlife shooting will be a real highlight for me personally.

I have six spots left and would be happy to fill you in on more details if you'd like them. The concept of the tour is to keep the tour cost way below what other comparable tours cost, and I believe this is the most inexpensive guided photo tour in Banff that month by at least several hundred dollars.

Abel Longoria and Wil Bloodworth (from TPF) both joined me for previous photo tours and Wil has already signed up for this one. It would be great to have you join us.

There is a bit more information here:

One of the many places we'll be visiting is Lake Louise......a spectacular setting for landscape photography.

So glad you are looking forward to it as much as I am, Jennifer.

Here's another of the iconic locations we'll be visiting in September - Moraine Lake with the famous series of "ten peaks"

Jeff,

I'm sooooo ready to go on this DCPT tour! I have had a blast on the DCPT Grand Tetons tours and I can only imagine that this trip will be even better! And I'm sure when September rolls around, we Texans will be ready for an overdue break from the heat. What better way to do that than to cool off in Canada with some great views, cool weather, and great company!

And if Jennifer is going... it's got to be fun!

It was a fun bunch! I don't think I have laughed so hard in a long time. This will be my first trip outside the United States. Wondering if Canadian moose are bigger.

The moose are about the same size.....but the mountain ranges are MUCH longer than in the Tetons.

How about Teton like mountain ranges on BOTH sides of the road for 70 plus miles?

I personally am a huge fan of the Tetons, but the Canadian Rockies in Banff National Park are just at a whole nother level when it comes to landscape magic.

Can't guarantee it, but grizzlies come down from the higher elevations and graze on berries on the side of the road during mid-September. I shot this one from the window of my rental car near Moraine Lake the same September weekend last year.

My inlaws live in Calgary, and I've been about a hundred miles up the highway from Banff. Just about every inch is spectacular, and highly accessable. None of the photos in this thread require anything more than a walk from the car. Do, however, expect snow in the mountains in mid-September.
