WY - Jackson: Grand Teton National Park Photo Tour - September 22-25, 2011 - 06-20-2011, 09:56 AM

I'm hosting another "Dirt Cheap Photo Tour" to Jackson Hole, Wyoming to shoot landscapes and wildife during the autumn foliage season in the Tetons in late September of this year.

From Thursday night, September 22nd to Sunday night, September 25th, 2011, I'll be leading a dozen other photographers to all of my favorite spots in Jackson Hole and Grand Teton National Park. The tour cost is $498 per person and that includes transportation to/from the park every day (I'm renting two full size luxury SUVs) and the park entrance fees.

Since rental car rates during this peak weekend approach $100 per day, the tour cost ends up being about the same as if you flew into the area and attempted to find all the best locations alone.

Each tour participant would be responsible for their travel to/from Jackson Hole, Wyoming (airport code: JAC), their hotel charges (I have a hotel - The Ranch Inn - that is giving us a group discount off their normal room rates) and their meals.

You may be aware that this time period is normally the peak foliage color season in Jackson Hole. Over the last three years fall color has been at peak the last weekend in September. There are no guarantees, but snow comes early to the area - last year the snow started the first week in October.

On our last tour we ended up visiting 21 different locations - some well known and some completely unknown to the vast majority of visitors. Last year we also encountered - and photographed - elk, bison, brown bears, moose, deer, owls, antelope, eagles and osprey.

You may not be aware of how fun a photo tour is and can be with the right people.....I didn't expect the friendship and fellowship to be the highlight of the tour, but it was for the myself and the shooters who accompanied me on two tours last year. I've been shooting for a long time - and going to the Tetons with a bunch of fellow shooters who love landscape and wildlife shooting was a real highlight for me personally.

I would be happy to fill you in on more details if you'd like them. The concept of the tour is to keep the tour cost way below what other comparable tours cost, and I believe this is the most inexpensive Teton tour in Jackson Hole that month by at least several hundred dollars.

Abel Longoria, Joe Lorenzini and Wil Bloodworth (all well know Pixtus members) have all joined me for earlier Teton photo tours. It would be great to have you join us.

There is a bit more information here:

Please feel free to contact me directly on my cell (940-231-7223) and I can answer any questions you might have.

Thanks.

This is one of the many places we'll be visiting - The Thomas Moulton barn on Mormon Row. Built by a homesteader in 1910 and almost torn down by the Park Service in the 1970's as an "eyesore". Local photographers banded together to save it - and now its one of the iconic images of the west.

Hopefully we'll have a great early morning sky like we did last September during the tour...

For any of you headed to the Tetons this summer - there are apparently three grizzly families frequenting the public areas. Here's a video about them (I did NOT take this video):

When we were there a few weeks ago there was a male grizzly reported several times in area of String Lake off of the Jenny Lake scenic drive. Also a female with twin cubs near the Snake river S curve bridge on US89 south of Moran Junction. We did not see the grizzlies but did find Black bear with twin cubs at the Snake river bridge & a lone female across from the Signal Mountain Lodge

This From YAHOO News Today

CODY, Wyo (Reuters) - A female grizzly bear attacked and killed a man who encountered the bruin and her cubs while he was hiking with his wife on Wednesday in Yellowstone National Park, park officials said.
The fatal mauling occurred about a mile and a half from the start of the Wapiti Lake trail, and another group of hikers nearby heard the victim's wife crying out for help and used a cell phone to call park rangers for assistance.

Just returned from our first Teton tour last weekend and the area was full of wildlife and wildflowers. Here's a shot that was taken at first light at Oxbow Bend.

We're doing another tour for Fall color in late September and there are several spaces still available. Please send me a note if you're interested in more details.

Last week we saw two grizzlies with cubs and five wolves as well as elk, moose, mule deer and antelope. We also saw river otters, beaver and two bald eagles.

Never can tell what you'll see around the next corner.

I still have spaces available on my next photo tour in late September.

Grizzly on the Hunt at Willow Flats - Grand Teton National Park by Jeff Clow, on Flickr

All twelve of our tour group members got a variation of this shot last week in Jackson Hole.....a grizzly teaching her cubs how to split and hunt a herd of elk.
