This is going to be an intensive photojournalism workshop. The class will be taught by myself and Todd Stricker, former president of NPPA (National Press Photographers Association). I have been involved in photojournalism for 3 years and have covered a variety of events in Haiti (the uprising...lived with the rebels, the flood, the violence, and the soccer match for peace), Cindy Sheehan, Hurricanes Rita and Katrina, protests, the rebuilding of the south, and more. My publications include Time Magazine, CNN.com, Fort Worth Star Telegram, People Newspapers, American Photo, Popular Photography, Arizona Republic, NEED Magazine, NACLA Report on the Americas, and numerous other books, publications, brochures, and websites. Todd has been working in the news business for KSAT and has over 20 years of experience. He has covered many events including the presidential inauguration, Kosovo Release of US soldiers, Hurricane Katrina, Hurricane Andrew, the recent tornado that hit Eagle Pass, elections, celebrities, and many more news events. His work has been featured on - NBC - ABC - CNN - OPRAH SHOW. We will be covering what works and does not work with a photo, how to tell the story with your photos, the ethics of the business, where the industry is headed (including video which is now being used in the newspaper industry), editing, captioning, marketing and more. There will be an assignment given, as well as an optional evening assignment. There will be hardcore critiques of the assignment, but it will end with what you did right and encouragement. Come prepared for 2 days of a lot of learning and fun.

Edit: Two more pieces of information: This workshop will take place the weekend before Juneteenth (June 19th), so I would suggest reading up on the meaning of that day because it could be useful in one of the assignments. I am also working with the Denton County Record newspaper, and they will consider publishing our students work from the festivities. So, we will be having you send your work into them, if you so choose, and they will review, and hopefully, publish some.

I would vote Houston, but looking at my calendar, I am stuck working. Never fails.

I worked for the Hurst Corporation and some of their newspapers when I lived in NY (part time job). What exactly are the details on the workshop?

JP! What would I teach you?? LOL! But would LOVE to have you!

As far as the details, the first part will be a slideshow, then lecture. We will cover what makes a good picture, how to make images that tell a story, even with just one photo, we will be going over ethics and ps ethics based on Reuters' guidelines, we will be going over how to caption, how to edit, how to submit. There will be an assignment given, but I won't be going into details for that, but you will have a deadline to work within, too. You will be given individual critiques, in front of the class, on your assignment photos. The next day we will work to put the images together to tell the story. There will also be a lot of time for questions and answers. Between the two of us, we can most likely answer any question you might have.

Cool... I don't remember voting on the poll but it says I can't... I would vote Houston but I like all ya'll Dallas folks so we'll see...

That's a heck of a deal for professional training.

About the dinner... Does Dutch go well with ketchup or Ranch dressing? How about Honey Mustard? Is it grilled or fried. I'm trying to watch my figure so I would prefer grilled...

Hahaha Michael! I have no idea why you all can't vote on this poll. Abel????

Henry, signup will take place as soon as the location is selected. Poll ends in 7 days, if I can get it to work. Maybe I accidently clicked 7 hrs instead of 7 days. Mods???

I think it's because we are so pretty... Polls are notorious for excluding the gorgeous people of the world. Or it's a Dallas conspiracy...

Ok... on a serious note (it won't last long) this sounds like a really, really good deal. I hope I'm around for it. I would drive to Dallas if that's where it ends up being held
