Computer not uploading my RAW files.... - 05-22-2009, 08:41 PM

I just got the 50D the other day and I shot around on it yesterday afternoon. I shot about 20 frames on JPEG until I realized it wasnt in RAW and switched it. Now, when I go to upload it to my computer, only those shot in raw are actually transfered!

HELP!

We need some detail. How are you transferring the files? To what computer environment (Mac, Win, Linux), using what software (file browser, manufacturer software, Adobe Lightroom, ...)? Does your connection cause the card to show up as a disk drive, and if so, can you see the JPEG files when you use a file browser?

Im on a PC. Ive tried to pull through LR, card reader and then uploading from the camera. The only one that comes close is importing to LR the RAW files are grey boxes.

Did you update LR to be sure it supports your 50D?

Just to clear this up, are the RAW file working in LR or ar ethe JPGs working? Your two posts seem contradictory.

Jpegs are working. The only time it looks like its trying to read the RAW is when I pull from camera straight to LR. Then I get the grey boxes. Importing anyother way I dont get any RAW files.

Sorry if that was confusing!

Something like this happened to me too with another program. It would read the RAW files from my Canon XT, but as soon as i got my 40D i still havent gotten it to read any RAW files from it. Its basically just a generic photo viewer, but i liked it better than having to open DPP or photoshop just to quickly browse pics on my card. I need to see if its due for an update i guess.

Sounds like you need to download the update for Lightroom to support the 50D RAW files. This question gets asked a lot, so someone will probably dig up a link to the Adobe support page.

Like they said above. I have the same issue with my old Photoshop bersions not opening A900 files. I would have to update my software to do it.

As long as you are viewing it through lightroom, you should see the pictures. If you are trying to view the pictures through a Windows program that came with your system, it will not recognize anything but JPEG.

Yeah...welcome to the club. You don't have to just update LR...you have to UPGRADE.... : ( LR 1 doesn't work with the 50D...you have to have 2. whatever. I've called canon to make sure that was the issue.

Not really sure if this will help, but in the Lightroom Preferences under the Import Tab there is a checkbox to treat JPEG files next to RAW files as separate photos. Make sure that it is not checked. I'm not really sure what it means, but the Library display for your RAW image is actually a small JPEG that is embedded in the RAW file (it is what is used for the camera display). Not sure if that is how it works, but it might be worth a try.
