Angry I'm going to kill someone.... CS4 upgrade - 06-12-2009, 12:20 AM

I'm headed to bed.... the last 4 hours trying to install Adobe Creative Suite 4 Web Premium.... the installation gives me an error saying that it couldn't overwrite the color profiles.

I've followed the tech guide - deleted the color files, gone into the registry to edit the pdf permissions... only for my registry to say - uh uh....

:Registry Editor could not set security in the key currently selected, or some of it's subkeys.

Does Adobe have that issue up for me to fix? NO... cause Adobe doesn't deal with the registry.

OMG - if there's a CS4 guru/install/genius... please point me in the direction to fix this...

And Jeff - if your out there... THIS would be where I lose ALL sense of 'friendliness'.... I expect things to do what they are supposed to do...

You probably need to be administrator role in order to make those changes.

Go to control panel, user account then change your account type, otherwise log in with administrator acc. then change your user account to admin.

I'm the admin on the computer.

The other thing to look is check permissions setting on the parent tree.

Right click on the parent key in question > permissions.. > advanced >

checkmark "inherit from parent the permissions..."

Be careful playing with Regedit, make sure you back it up and know how to get around safemode restore... good luck.

You've got a few choices. The easiest is to do a complete uninstall (to remove registry entries).

Make a temp folder on your root directory. Go to the control panel and system. Go to the advanced tab and choose environmental variables. You'll find two temp variables in the top window. Edit both values to c:\yourtempname

Then go to c:\documents and settings\username\application data\adobe. Locate the folder for CS4 and rename it, then reinstall.

BTW if you don't see application data, it's because it's a hidden folder. Just go to tools > folder options > view (tab) and locate 'hidden files and folders' and mark 'show hidden files and folders'

Daniel,
This was what the Adobe tech notes said to do. Which is where I was getting the error mentioned above, that :Registry Editor could not set security in the key currently selected, or some of it's subkeys bit.

I backed up my registry before hand. ;-)
Thanks,
Donna

Ooh, this reminds me of when I was installing CS3 on my computer a while back. It would take it 4 hours (pretending it was installing) and then tell me there was an error (multiple times this happened). I finally found a helpful blog entry where someone had the same problem. I had to boot up my computer in Safe Mode and delete everything Adobe and Macromedia from my computer and then it FINALLY installed.

The most frustrating thing is I then installed it on my boyfriends computer (which had Adobe CS, just like mine did) and everything installed without a hitch.

I feel your pain...I don't know how Adobe could screw up something as important as an install.

I think I'm missing something important here...

I can see hidden files/folders (standard setting for me).

I've done a complete uninstall of Adobe - ran the CS4 cleanup utility.

I've created the root temp folder, and modified the enviromental variables settings per your suggestion.

Then you say: Then go to c:\documents and settings\username\application data\adobe. Locate the folder for CS4 and rename it, then reinstall.

On vista, it's C:\Users\list of users\application data\adobe... and because I uninstalled CS4 - there are no Adobe folders.

Ok - Sorry, didnt know which OS you're using. As for the missing folder - I only mentioned that because you might have a problem with removing it all the way. This just guarantees a clean install. If you install it at this point, will it finish?

It appears to be windows boo-boo with possibility corrupted key. This looks like similar reg key issue to yours, administrative privilege and such but unable to alter key value. If you are still on editing reg, may be this helps...

Thanks Daniel - I gave up and called Adobe and am currently uninstalling all Adobe software on my computer so that we can get it installed correctly.

One other thought - disable your antivirus. Depending upon which one you have (PLEASE don't say Norton), you should be able to disable it. Also, clean the CS4 DVD. If there's a fingerprint or something else, that can cause a corrupt install also.

It just so happens that my virus software had JUST ran out, so I had uninstalled it before I started this whole stupid thing. So we can't blame the anti-virus on this one.... lol. And no prints on the disks...lol...

although in this case - it IS a window's issue... so that'd fix it. ;-)

Okay ya'll - lets throw something hard at you.

The Adobe folks told me to create a new user profile. I can create a new user profile (administrator level) however when I try to log in, it tells me that the user login failed.

I found this tutorial:
http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/13...ot-loaded.html

which gives me instructions - the problem is that the user profile I created isn't in the registry key area that it tells you to go.

I'm at a loss on where to go from here.
