I've been using a laser mouse since it came out and debating whether I should get one of those tablets, is it still worth it if I hardly touch my Photoshop? I use Lightroom for editing 99.9% of my pictures now.

I use both LR and PS (start in LR, then move to PS), and there are some things in both that are a whole lot easier and more precise using a tablet. I hated using a mouse for image retouching.

Great thread. I purchased one to use with Photoshop. I want to use it real bad but it seems to slow me down. I guess I don't know the benefit of it. I thought I did and went out and bought it but it wasn't what I thought it would be. I wanted to use it primarily when I extract images from their background using the pen tool in photoshop. I thought I was going to be able to trace the edge with much precision. Anyone want to help me get back on this thing?

No designer or photographer should be without a Wacom.
Using a mouse to edit images is like taking pictures with a crappy cell phone.

If you have the means, I highly recommend the Cintique. It's so choice.

How long did you use it? I've been using mine with just the pen for about a month. Using the pen feels like I'm actually drawing, painting, etc. I'm so accustomed to it that using a mouse feels foreign to me now.

From 15 years of wacom tablet use in the graphics and photo industry, I wouldn't use anything smaller than the 6x9. People do, but I prefer the extra working space/resolution of the larger tablets. I tend to use the 9x12 version and now the Cintiq which takes it to a whole other level.

I've got a medium sized one.. a graphire 6x9 I think? Can't remember, but I love it for photo editing. I don't use it for anything else (sits on a little shelf under my desk) but I always pull it out when I'm doing any real editing. One day I will have this thing - http://www.wacom.com/cintiq/cintiq-21ux.php mmmmmmm....

does anyone here notice a huge difference between the bamboo and the intuos? i've been considering the intuos, but now they make a bamboo tablet that also supports touch controls like a trackpad on a laptop.

The Bamboo will work fine I think for most stuff. But you'll notice a difference if you try the Intuos line.
The Bamboo line is the less-expensive "hobbyist" line from Wacom, but the Intuos is more geared toward professional use. The Intuos is higher resolution and has higher levels of sensitivity. The Intuos featuring 2048 levels of pressure and the Bamboo featuring 1024 pressure levels.
I have an older Bamboo "Fun" that I use, my brother has an older Intuos that he uses and I can tell the difference in finesse between the two.

Snap. I just have to revive this old thread because I just got an Intuos3 that was on sale at Costco. It's frikin' uh-MAZING! Soooo much smoother and refined than the Bamboo I had been using. And for what it's worth, the 4x6 is plenty big for photo editing. I think if you get the large ones you'll get frustrated with having to cross so much real estate to go to the other side of the screen.
I highly recommend these tablets.

I can only imagine how the Intuos4 feels... It's probably Like buttah'!

The new Bamboos have the same specs as the now obsolete Intuos3. It is much improved over the prior version. My son gave me the New Bamboo Pen and Touch for my lap top bag and I use it at work now also. Love it.

Aren't Bamboos and Intruos under the same company?
