waters, which kexts did you have to swap out to run SL in 64 bit? I know my MBP is 64 bit EFI, so it should fire up fine, but the ol' 6+4 key boot isn't getting me into 64 bit mode. | | | |

Here's where I started: netkas.org Unlocking 64-bit efi Macbooks for 64-bit kernel.
I had posted this in another thread, but that one's a bit messy, so here's the synopsis:
1 - replace the boot.efi file and bless it (see post #35 in that thread)
2 - replace the WiFi driver using IO80211Family.kext (see post #66)
3 - edit /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist add arch=x86_64 (see post #22)
Reboot once, perhaps twice. I only needed one reboot.
Here's what the current system profiler says:

You're welcome Brian. The real thanks go to the bleeding edge folks who figured it out in the first place. I'm just a Google head that can find them...

I did buy two laptops from them this Christmas for my daughters but they were just, what I consider, "toys" as they were only $450 each. Not bad, spec wise, but "cheap".
Memory (RAM) is definitely one of those things that makes or breaks a computer. Good RAM is always something not to skimp on... as you're seeing right now. Stay away from FRY'S for RAM as well.

Once you do that, then follow the instructions I posted above in #18 to get full 64 bit kernel goodness

I was reading up on it last night, and downloaded the little file in anticipation.

I got the proper memory from memorytogo.com this morning (that was quick!). I installed Snow Leopard, just did the upgrade process, and it was painless. All of my programs still work, just FASTER than before. Now I am trying the 64bit thing and while in terminal I get this, any ideas?

Don't use the nvram program. Just edit the file I referenced to add the arch=x86_64 parameter. I used emacs as an editor, but if you know vi, you can use that too. The file must remain a plain text file though so you can't use textedit.
