The problem with DVDs is that no one really knows how long they will last. There are a bunch of engineering calculations out there, but no one really knows.

Most people now only use hard drives for backup both because of the volume of data to be backed up and because they keep multiple rotating backups so that at least one is off site at all times.

Once we get through the problems caused by the flooding in Thailand the price of hard drives should return to something approaching normal. Unfortunately, reports indicate that will probably be next summer or fall.

I think Dropbox is the best software to backup the data. There are many others option like Clonezilla, Hinx , Syncback, PureSync.

Dropbox would be a good backup for files. The more you can invite more emails to in your account, they will increase your storage capacity. It's really nice. you can have file-sharing with your friends & easy to access files.
