Just installed photoshop cs3 on my laptop today after using cs2 for several years. I am surprised at how much quicker cs3 loads. Everything seems to be working fine except I cant open a jpeg file by clicking on it. I can open by going into file open in cs3 but it has to be open first. How can a set window to to default to using cs3 to open jpegs? Ive tired open with and finding the photoshop icon but get an error message.

Open up your explorer window. Click on Tool, folder options, select the file types tab. locate jpg and select "change" You should now see a window with programs that can be associated with .jpg extensions. Select the one you want, make sure the box is checked for "always use the selected program to open this kind of file" and click okay to save your setting.

You may want to do the same for .jpeg extensions.

Now when you double-click a .jpg file, the program you just selected should launch and open the file.

Kenny- it just tried the steps in your last post and still get the message. It tells me that the file is not a valid win32 application. It also has not put the default photoshop icon on the files but a notepad looking icon.

That's actually a strange and unusual response. I have CS2 and CS4 loaded. Won't have time tomorrow to check further on this for you, but should have time Sunday. I'll try to remember to pm you some more info then.

Have you tried changing the file type associations in Adobe Bridge? I think that will also set the file types for PS.

I'm on a Mac, but on Windows (in bridge) I think its Edit > Preferences > File Type Associations

You should be able to:

1) right click on a JPG file
2) click on "Open With >"
3) click on "Choose Program..."
4) find and select "Adobe Photoshop CS3"
5) check the box "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file"
6) click "OK"

Now you chould be able to double click a JPG file to open with CS3. You might have to do this with both .jpg and .jpeg extensions if need be.

yes but it still doesnt let me open the file. Everytime I change the default program to cs3 it puts a notepad icon on the file instead of the photoshop icon. When I do try to open with it tells me that the file is not a valid win32 app.
