New MacBook Pro Core i7 2.66 - 04-21-2010, 08:20 PM

I just got my new MacBook Pro today. 17" of wonderful goodness. I was a little worried that 1920 x 1200 resolution would make text/icons too small in those places it can't be changed (menu items, icon text, etc.) but it really is sharp and clear. I don't think I could comfortably go any smaller but this is great.

One thing I'm really impressed with is the new momentum scroll. For those times when you're browsing forums and want to move up and down in long threads it makes it soooooo easy.

Oh yeah, here's a quick pic I took with my iPhone shortly after FedEx delivered it today:

Awesome, John. It sure does look weird having all that dead space. I have a 17" Dell, but it has the 10key next to the keyboard so it isn't as... spacious!

I thought the 17" was only i5 and 2.53GHz???

The 15" has the i7 2.66GHz.

The 2.66GHz i7 is a $200 add-on for the 17"

lol... sorry, too quick on the trigger I suppose

I've been really wanting one, so I knew the upgrade price off the top of my head. Now to convince myself I should actually buy it, against my better common sense (my 2008 SR MBP is rocking along just fine, after all).

Jeff, it does look a little weird and I do like 10 key keypads but Apple took the room used by the keypad and put in speakers that are really good for a laptop. Honestly I'll use the speakers a lot more than I would a 10 key but it does make it look out of proportion.

Yeah, if I had a Santa Rosa MBP then I would not have upgraded. As it is I've been without a laptop for 4 years. The last one I had, a Compaq, lasted me a year before the power connector in the laptop became loose and ultimately quit recharging the laptop. I've missed the ability to do things while watching TV and take it with me on trips, etc. and finally decided to get another one.

Mine is on its way, paid for by my employer. They had ordered it before Apple released the new ones, but we got a last-minute swap for the latest 17-incher. I'm more than ready to have it on my desk!

Todd, after using mine for a day and half I'm confident in saying you'll love it. It really is a great laptop.
