learn the Mac way of doing things

I'd be more concerned with learning the Adobe way of doing things since once you open the application all things are relatively equal.

Of course you could have also just learned the Linux way of doing things. Wouldn't had cost you anything to try and it would had probably run quite well on your old machine.

I believe a few on here use DigiKam. It probably would have handled your small time editing needs.

How much photo equipment could you have bought with all that $$$ ? Just sayin'.
