When the happy delivery man brings me my RAM (8GB DDR3), I'll be able to finish the build of my new main desktop. Core i7 860, 1.5TB storage (enough for now), 8GB DDR3, 1GB vram (ATI HD5750), 2x 23" e-IPS screens.

Win7 Pro is primed and ready to go, for my *nix needs I'll run a VM within Win7 (rather than actually dual-booting). Sometime between now and the time my RAM arrives, I'll pick up CS5 Design Premium, and Lightroom 3.

Essentially everything I run on my iMac right now is cross-platform anyway, so there's quite nearly a direct (and free) replacement for everything. The only thing I'm expecting to miss is iMovie. I may have to pay for a competent video editing application, though I don't do much video to begin with.

Anyway, I look forward to the increased power and reduced worry. The screens won't be here for a while, but I can get things up and running on my spare 20" as soon as the RAM gets here.

I just talked to a friend who does video editing. She does Adobe Premeir and said she downloaded the lasted Roxio version for $100 and you can edit video on it..not sure how well, or how much editing you can do..but it is an option.

Yeah, I've looked at that. I'll cross that bridge when I get there for sure, thanks though!

I fired it up last night from my Ubuntu USB stick to run a few torture scripts I have and make sure it wasn't going to melt. Even at full tilt it's less noisy than this iMac under normal load. Significantly faster too (though that's kind of a horse-drawn carriage to Ducati GP bike comparison, dual core vs quad core). As soon as I move enough stuff around, I'll start getting ready to install things :)
