Question Photoshop CS5 - 07-16-2010, 12:18 PM

I have the original Photoshop CS2 (Full Version) installed on my computer and have updated through the latest versions of Photoshop up to CS5. My question is, can I delete the previous versions or are they still required for the upgrades to work properly? Thanks!

You can delete, the upgrade only checks the serial from previous once you activate.

Just don't un-install them when you are in a hurry.

I deactivated CS4, then uninstalled using the Adobe un-installer. It hosed my install of Photoshop CS5. I had to re-install CS5, but that brought me back to camera raw version 6.0 instead of 6.1. Then the 6.1 Raw updater wouldn't install. After about 45 minutes on the phone with Adobe, I had to remove both CS5 and Lightroom 3. Reinstalled CS5, updated camera raw, then installed LR3. Back up and running.

I hate how Adobe dumps files all over the system... (btw, I'm on the Mac...)

When you install CS5 upgrade, you'll be asked to put in the serial number of a qualifying product (i.e. CS2-CS4).

Well, I ask the Adobe support people that question exactly! Unfortunately, they didn't have an answer. I complained pretty loudly that their installer had damaged the install of another application.

Hopefully this problem is unusual. At least I was able to correct it, but it took a little time. Plus, I would have never thought that I would have to remove and re-install LR 3 as well!

I mostly posted to make others aware of the potential problem, and the fix. In the unlikely event other have the same problem, at least this should help avoid a call to Adobe.

Thanks for the input! So exactly how do I go about uninstalling them? Do I go to add and remove in the control panel or is there another method? I only have Lightroom 2 and I don't use it very often.

you might have to remove all through control panel and repair the CS5 install. adobe is famous for crappy installers.
