Calibration of new IMac - 09-14-2010, 01:30 PM

Looks like another pc is heading down the to be replaced road. I have an 09 Imac 24 inch that I am using for editing now, but to calibrate it I have to run shades in the background to dim the monitor.

Question is has anyone tried calibrating the new 27 inch Imac and the color gamut? Does it need to have Shades running to dim it also.

Trying to decide on 27 Imac or MacPro and new monitor for editing. Going to hand the current Imac down to replace the PC.

Imac is going to be the least expensive of the options, so any help is appreciated.

I would go for the new i5 or i7 iMac. If you are wanting something with close to the same speed as the MacPro, then go with the i7.

We have a MacPro 8-core at my office and an i7 Quad ... and let tell you the rendering time and output for After Effects and Final Cut are quite amazing and close to each other.

I was in your predicament a couple years ago. I chose a Mac Pro with a 24" Dell UltraSharp LCD. Never looked back... However, just depend on how much you want to spend. I have seen a couple IPS monitors and it makes me want to get one. Since starting my little group, I don't have a budget for new gadgets. Having everything for 2+ years and still running strong is a great blessing for my wallet. :)
