New Monitor - calibrating - 11-01-2010, 02:33 PM

I just got a new HP 24" ISP monitor. HP / Hewlett-Packard ZR24w 24" Widescreen LCD VM633A8#ABA

I went in to calibrate it and no matter what I do the color is really off when I compare it to my laptop which is also calibrated. Soes it matter which cable I use to hook it into my laptop? I calibrate in a 100% dark room.

Anyone have this problem?

I bought the same monitor a few months ago as well as a Spyder3 Pro calibration tool (updated software to v4). I have them attached to a desktop PC running Vista 64 bit.

I have no problem getting the colors calibrated to sRGB for printing. However, the brightness setting is way too bright. I have tuned down the brightness so I don't burn my eyes out, but prints come out too dark.

I use Lightroom 3 for editing my photos. Before I print, I use the Brightness setting in the Develope module and increase by 20 to 25 (not exposure).

I don't have a good answer about your laptop calibration (not enough info). I think the cable matters if you are using a converter, DVI to analogue. I would use a cable that matches your video out on your laptop.

I have been using the Huey Pro to calibrate the laptop and have had no problem with prints being too dark or the colors being off. The laptop is an HP Pavillion DV7000 windows 7 64bit. (I have had no problems with it interfacing with 7 like some users seem to). Side by side, there is a VERY noticable difference between the 2 monitors. The desktop is a lot darker and a lot more yellow.

The difference could be the way the laptop video card handles two monitors. I think your computer can only use one color profile for the two monitors. So, if your video card is using the color profile from the result of the laptop calibration, the colors for the HP monitor would be off. If your video card is using the result of the HP calibration, the HP monitor should be good and your laptop would be off.

I suggest you make sure the video card is using the color profile for the new HP ZR24 and make a few test prints to check the colors.

Sorry, I'm not good with Windows 7. Maybe someone else will get in on the thread and help out. I'm on a Linux computer now.

You may find some help in your Huey Pro information or Google Win7 color management.

If you are using Adobe PS, LR, etc., I think Adobe loads a program (Adobe Gamma Loader) at startup, you should disable that.
