MB Pro third battery - 12-13-2010, 08:20 PM

I have a MacBook Pro that I purchased new three years and three months ago. It about to start on its third battery. This doesn't seem normal to me as I seldom use it without the AC cord. Thoughts?

Use it w/o the ac cord......run the battery down recharge it, you might have an issue with overcharging...maybe a system issue that is burning up the cells.

how's the desktop?

That sounds a bit much. I'm on my first battery and my MBP is almost two years old. However I almost exclusively use it connected to a power source, seeing mild batter usage. The battery still holds a really good charge and reaches 100% all the time.
According to iStat Pro it's had 303 cycles and is at 94% health.

The System Profiler says that mine has had 111 cycles, and the condition is "Check Battery." Bah.

Wow that is weird. Are the third party batteries or Apple brand? (Not that it should matter, but it might.)

It's straight from the Apple Store in Southlake. I'm going to see if they will offer a free replacement since this one's just over a year old.

Definitely. I wonder what's causing it? I know it's out of warranty, but I think I'd want to get that checked out.

One thing we've always done is put the laptop to sleep instead of turning it off when not in use. In fact, we've done this a lot for a long time. That could be training the battery life, yes?

Maybe so. I only put mine to sleep if I'm going to be away for a few hours. Over night I hit "Shut off" every night.

batteries need to charge and discharge to stay healthy. it seems counter-intuitive, but you need to run it down on battery at least once a week.

Thanks. I'll do this with the next battery.
