So... - 01-15-2011, 12:24 PM

I mainly use a laptop for my photo stuff since I digitally scrapbook. I use my desktop sometimes but mainly my laptop which is a dell inspiron 1525. I use a 1tb drive and a 500GB drive as storage/backup.

What I want to know is how do I calibrate my laptop monitor to make pics look right? Can I do that on this particular laptop?

Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks :)

OK so how do I go about calibrating a desktop monitor? And can I ask why it is about impossible to calibrate a laptop? Just curious.

Laptops are very compact and usually only have a backlight at the bottom, therefore you get a uneven brightness. Desktop monitors can have backlights on top, sides and bottom because they are not trying to save weight or form factor. This is a clifnotes reason because we could get into IPs vs. TN and that is a whole different debate.

To calibrate you use a device that reads the monitor output and creates a color profile for it.

Look at Spyder Pro or Color Monki or Panetone Huey.

Those seem to be the front runners.
