external question - 05-09-2011, 02:32 PM

I purchased an Seagate External and went to set it up, following the instructions. It said it needed to be reformatted for my mac and I went ahead and did that, but then for some reason, it couldn't complete and now when I plug it in, my mac's not recognizing it. Any suggestions on how I can get it back?

thanks!

If you bought one labeled "for Windows", it may not work:

is it visible in disk utility? did you attempt the reformat in disk utility, or some other application (trying to rule out software bundled with the drive)

I would skip the bundled software and use your MAC to format it.

Thanks for the responses! I was having trouble finding it in disk utility, but found it when rebooted and formatted it. Working fine now!
