Wonder what the actual transfer speed for CF cards is, though. USB-3 interface does not guarantee anything if the CF chipset they use is the bottleneck. I've yet to find a card-reader for my desktop that's as fast as the Expresscard reader I have for my laptop. Personally I think for an internal reader it would make more sense to use SATA for the CF card.

Don't know what all of this means, but I found this earlier at the Nikon Cafe.

Here is my real world non-scientific transfer test using 32G Sandisk Extreme CF 60mb/s card.

Avg transfer from PC to Card = 57 mb/s. Very close to advertise of 60mb/s.

Avg transfer from Card to PC = 315 mb/s with short burst at ~400 mb/s. WOW! Gone are the days of having a drink or go to wash room while transferring an 8GB files.
Thunderbolt isn't far off either.

Dunno, I haven't used it. I was suppose to build a new rig with a USB 3.0 mobo but my project got squish when other 'stuff' came along.

Nice! Eight months too late for the internal, but the external will work.

I put this in my PC.
Amazon.com: ADD CARD ROSEWILL RC-505 USB 3.0 RETAIL: Electronics

Then I bought this card reader.
Delkin USB 3.0 Memory Card Reader is Darn Near Perfect

Starts off above 233mb/sec but maintains speeds of about 44-54mb/sec downloading images from the 400X Transcend cards.

Certainly saves time and works well so far.

So I got the Delkin USB 3 reader. It's a cheap piece of plastic, and came with a ridiculously short cable (with micro-B connector on the device end, not something I have spares of laying around). But it's fast; I got a sustained 68MB/s download from my PhotoFast GMonster CF card. That's more than twice as fast as the Sandisk FW-800 reader I was previously using (it died), and even a bit faster than the ExpressCard reader I use with my laptop.

I still question why somebody doesn't make a fast eSata card reader, since right now there are probably a lot more people with eSata ports than USB3 ports.

Ooh, my new laptop has a USB 3.0 ports. I think I need to get that external card reader.

The Delkin mentioned above works great. We used it at a softball tournament this past weekend. Thousands of pics went through it.
