Need a replacement computer - 05-22-2011, 09:11 PM

A very good friend of mine has a computer that is dying. So I do not have an unending job of getting it put in and then needing to come back and rework it, I am looking for a little help here. It needs to run:

Lightroom
CS3, 4, or 5 w/Adobe Camera Raw
ACD
CaptureNX
ProSelect
Roes/Proes
Sucessware

Support:
2 monitors
1 or 2 TB is fine, Raid would be better (the old machine had one disc die and that's why a replacement is being considered).
Wacom Tablet
DVD Burner, minimum, or possibly a BluRay burner as a hedge against the future.

His eyesight is very limited now, so it may also need to run DragonDictate or other magnification software as well.

They would like to stay with Dell equipment, but would be happy with what is available in the "Scratch and Dent" online store.

Given Windows 7, what would be the right amount of memory to buy? And as far as graphics card, we want to edit photos, not play games or edit videos.

How adept are you at sourcing and building a computer from scratch or are you asking for an OEM suggestion.

Contact TPF member, Rson (Rich). He could probably custom-build something for your friend. He built my current machine, and it's fast and solid.
