On-site Print Set-up Question - 06-19-2011, 04:02 PM

I'm looking for suggestions for a laptop and portable printer.

I currently use CS5 at home on my PC and do not own a quality printer. I'm entertaining the purchase of a laptop and a good printer in order to do some post processing and make prints on location (ie drag races or Little League games). If I go with Mac I'll have to buy CS5 again, but that's only one consideration. Also, I will not have access to 110v, so a battery powered printer or a small generator (compatible with electronic devices) will be necessary.

In regard to the laptop...it's gotta be fast. Waiting on my desktop is making me an angry little man.

All opinions and suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks, Brian

1: You can get a power inverter for AC power....just look for the most watts

Here is a good one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-064-_-Product

2: I love Sony and Lenovo laptops; HP's seem to run REALLY Hot. Hot means inefficient.

One word of advise from personal experience.... Don't go cheap on the printer.

We did the first go around and it was a HUGE mess and pain

Finally broke down and bought some Sony Snaplabs and have not been happier. FAST - EASY and the GOOD QUALITY.

We can shoot and print within 15 seconds which is nice, especially on location.

A Honda EU 2000 i generator ran our set up this past weekend and the event before. Never ran out of gas, never hicked up. Smooth and quiet. 'Course I had a 6 gallon boat tank hooked up to it! :-) Very economical.

It ran 8 laptops, 8 monitors, A Sony dye sub printer, 2 nine inch fans and a 24 inch warehouse style fan. The only time you could hear it load up was when the printer cranked up.

Thanks Mike. The Honda is what I had in mind when I mentioned a generator that would be compatible with electronics. I've seen a friend's 2000 i in action and you could barely hear it running. I believe you can also "Daisy Chain" them...which is pretty cool.

Thanks again. -Brian

That's correct. The one I had borrowed is set up so another one can be connected to provide 220v for an AC unit.

Note 1: I bought a gas cap from Wise Sales (internet). I installed an OMC outboard motor gas line connection and had it connected to a 6 gallon plastic OB engine tank. The generator ran all day with no concerns about running out of gas.

Note 2: There is no need for a squeeze bulb in the line. Just tank, line and OMC fitting mounted in the gas cap. The generator has a fuel pump and will draw the gas from the tank.
