computers hate me!! - 07-27-2011, 06:40 PM

So my nice new computer has been giving me the blue screen crash dump more and more frequently. Usually only when I am on the internet...

Today, it did it when I was on my Microsoft Office Outlook....now my inbox messages have all disappeared. And when I hit send and receive....the messages are coming in, but you can't see or view them.....

Is it possible to be a photographer and not have a computer???

Blue screen errors can result from bad drivers or bad RAM. When I was having the problem, I ran the memory test function and isolated the bad module. It was under warranty so the company replaced it free of charge except for the shipping to them (about $5).

There are many reasons that you can get a blue screen. As John said, bad drivers or bad are the likely cause. I have a lot of computer experience
(built my first computer when I was 8...lol)...worst case scenario, is a BIOS virus. What protection software do you use to protect against malicious activity? ...i.e. anti virus, malware, adware etc...
If you have the operating system discs, simply try running the boot discs first. Make sure that when you are in mode, that your computer boots from CD-ROM first. If that doesn't work, then you have to worry about more major problems. Worse comes to worse...back up your important files on your drive, and perform a low-level format.

Do this to run the test...

1) Click the Start button, and type “memory” into the search box.

2) From the options that appear, click on “Diagnose your computer’s memory problems.”

3) In the box that pops up, click on “Restart now and check for problems.”

4) Watch your screen as the computer restarts and begins the test. Do not do anything to the machine while the test is running.

5) Once it’s finished, Windows will restart and give you a message on the health of the memory modules.

Or call Rich.

Once Windows restarts, it can a be a couple of minutes before the report pops up with the memory message. It definitely sounds like a bad RAM module based on what you've said that the test results showed.

You can pull the RAM and take it to Frys. I know they used to test it for you.

Are you saying that it won't boot into Windows now?
