Samevbut different site this is Crucial. Bought from them in the past. I believe some Intel Macs may have had firmware update, but not certain, to accept RAM higher than when first out.
Crucial link to iMac page: Apple Memory Mac Memory Upgrades for PowerBook PowerMac G4 G5 Mac Mini iBook iMac Memory

If that doesn't get you there just crucial.com and go to the iMac page.

A pearl; the memory modules can slip down and make bad contact. I had to put a piece of plastic foam under the modules then close.

Thanks for the info everyone.

OWC site says 6 GB Max but Crucial site says 4 GB Max.......

If I can't get 8, I hope at least 6.

Even though I like to purchase a new iMac, I need to see if I can squeeze more juice out of this machine for another two or so years....

Yes, you can put 2x4GB DDR3 memory in. I did that last year because 4GB just was not enough with photo finishing software (CNX2). I, too, have the 24" iMac. It is laptop memory, same as used in the PowerPC.

This is what I bought...

Are you sure? iMAC's came out with several different 24" models. What year is yours? Plus, doesn't DDR2 (Me) and DDR3 (You) variance make a difference?

I just ran the Crucial memory upgrade system for my model and it's telling me 2GB per slot.

iMac Mid 2007 is Model 7.1 - 6 GB RAM
iMac April 2008 is Model 8.1 - 6 GB RAM (This is Your's)
iMac March 2009 is Model 9.1 - 8 GB RAM

To install the 6 GB you need a 4 GB in the left slot and a 2 GB in the right slot. Apple factory specification maximum 4.0GB, Other World Computing tested to support 6.0GB maximum RAM. All the information you need at this link:

Upgrade Apple iMac Memory & more
