What PC tuneup softwear to use - 01-04-2012, 06:50 AM

I currently use System Mech, but the new version messes with some of my PS plugins (Topaz) and is causing my router to cycle between connected and unconnested. Its a known issue with Topaz, but just looking to see what else is out there.
Is a shame, I really liked the ease of SM as it kept my PCs running smoothly until now.

I run SmartDefrag2 and Spybot every weekend and every time I add or delete any major software. That takes care of defragmenting and optimizing. Spybot protects from malware, along with Windows Malware detector. AVG runs nightly. My computer runs well all of the time with this setup and I have no problem with viruses.
For anyone running Firefox, I have some tweaks that can be done to make it run faster. I have uploaded them before and can do so again.

CCleaner works like a charm. I also run a program called PSI (Personal Software Inspector).

Quote:
Patching insecure programs helps safeguard your data and PC against cybercriminals. Secunia PSI is a security scanner which identifies programs that are insecure and need updates. It even automates the updating of many of these programs, making it a lot easier to maintain a secure PC.

Being in the IT field, I can tell you that most of the software made to clean/optimize your computer is a joke and a money sink.

"Being in the IT field, I can tell you that most of the software made to clean/optimize your computer is a joke and a money sink."

Are you saying that defragmenting and optimizing, moving the files that make up an application into contiguous locations, is a waste of time, or that the software which claims to do that is a waste of time>

Joe,

"everybody" considers themselves in the IT field. If the software you use works for you then continue to use it. Some people just like to be negative. Heck, I even worked in the IT industry for 8 years.

Greg - you could be more helpful and offer alternative suggestions.

Okay - this is funny for those of us who know what it is.

For everyone else... if you don't know what it is, don't use it! You could lose everything on the drive.

Thanks. It was just a question. I'm just interested in hearing if furinox knows of something better than I already use.
